AUSSIE CURVES: COCKTAIL

Standard

As I sit down to do this post, I’m very aware of ALL the things I have to do! I’m going away you see (holiday…not asylum!) and have loads to do in the next few hours. I couldn’t miss out on this Aussie Curves challenge though – I LOVE the whole cocktail theme. In fact, in the last 3 years I’ve come to find that I love wearing dresses (all types). So due to time constraints here’s my Aussie Curves: Cocktail post in a nutshell…

2014: A new year…a new you?

Standard

Image

As 2013 starts to draw to a close and the unknowns of 2014 are just a round the corner, I find myself thinking about New Years Resolutions.

Do you make them? Do you keep them?

Well, all too often my New Years Resolutions have focused on losing weight and getting fitter. Familiar? It’s always about ‘fixing’ myself…and has yet to be ‘achieved’! This has got me thinking: WHY SET MYSELF UP TO FAIL…AGAIN! I’m actually ok with me…am I doing it to ‘fit’ into society better? I’ve decided : NO MORE! Yes, I will work towards a healthier lifestyle-being healthy is important-but instead of new resolutions I’m going to do a .2014 ‘Bucket List’…with 3 achievable goals.

So, here’s my list:

1) I will be PRESENT in my life…stop and smell the flowers…

2) I will go away on a ‘Girls Weekend’…cocktails and sun.

3) I will go camping with my wonderful family and enjoy it 😉

DONE.

What’s on your ‘bucket list’???

AUSSIES CURVES: RESORT

As I sit down to do my post on the AUSSIE CURVES: RESORT challenge, I find myself thinking how wonderful it would be to post from somewhere fabulous…oh well, we’re allowed to dream….

For me this challenge makes me think of gorgeous, free flowing maxi dresses and kaftans.

I love maxi dresses. I find them so easy to dress up or down, taking you from beach to bar or party depending on what shoes you wear and what accessories you use.

This is one of my favourites maxi dresses… I got it in 2008 and it’s STILL being brought out… The photo was taken on New Years Eve 2008, while we were on holiday in Uruguay.

My second outfit…is my amazing kaftan from RUBY STREET. I Love, love, love it. It is cool and sooooo easy to wear. I love the print of the material-a mix of classic flowers and funky polka dots.

40 AND FABULOUS VS. BODY MAINTENANCE POST 40…OMG!!!!

Standard

40…40…40…

Image

I hit the 40 milestone 2 years ago. It wasn’t something I was really worried about and didn’t have any meltdowns about…Why would I : have you heard the saying “40 is the new 30” ? Looking back over my 40th party pics brings a smile to my face…it was a good night with some fabulous people and everyone looked wonderful wearing their ‘black and white with a dash of pink’. We’d only been in Australia for 2 years, so some of the most important people in my life weren’t able to be there – that was a little sad…

Leading up to my 40th I had this idea of what I would and wouldn’t be when I turned 40…

  • I would be thin -HAHAHA…that never happened
  • I would be 100% comfortable in my own skin…(body acceptance)- well, that’s still a work in progress 😉
  • I would do what I wanted to do…be less of a people pleaser! This is probably the most noticeable change  for me – if I like you, I like you…if I want to do something I will and if I don’t I won’t…

Now…there are some things that I HAVE noticed since turning 40 that are not so fabulous…

…WHERE DID THAT MOUSTACHE COME FROM?

…AND THE ‘BEARD’?

…AND THE HAIRY ARMS?

…AND THAT BIKINI LINE?(if you can even call it that!)

…WHERE DID THOSE GREY HAIRS COME FROM?

…AND WHY AM I STILL GETTING SPOTS?????

Has anyone else noticed this???

Someone recently mentioned growing old gracefully to me. WHAT? Old? (remember that saying: 40 is the new 30!). Gracefully? I see nothing graceful in facial hair and grey locks. SERIOUSLY? Nope, that’s not going to be me!  It might take some serious work on a regular basis, but I want to feel FABULOUS!

This can cost quite a bit though and if you have a young family, it can’t all be about me,me,me- not yet anyway 😉

Here are some tips which I find work, if you too find yourself in the same quandary – and they don’t cost a fortune.

  1. Facial hair:  I have tweezers in my car(it’s the best place to see those ‘lovely’ hairs which seem to sprout overnight…you know, the ones you see on the ‘crazy lady’ in the supermarket…the ones you remember your gran having…)
  2.  Body hair: I’ve invested in a bottle of hair remover for my arms and go from having werewolf arms(as my 14 year old so delightfully calls them) to smooth and hairless in the time it takes to shower. I tried an epilator- OUCH! I know the whole ‘no pain, no gain’ thing, but if having a few voddies before you do it doesn’t numb the pain then it’s a no go for me!
  3.  My grey hair : There are some really great hair colouring products out there that are so easy to use. One of my favourites is a semi-permanent hair colour (Castings: Loreal) – it gives good coverage and lasts a decent amount of time too. Just remember to put a barrier cream/Vaseline on your hair-line and on and behind your ears to stop staining in those unwanted places.

Now all of this is not for everyone and I certainly wouldn’t want to offend anyone-each to their own-but for me it’s not even an option. I love fashion, bling, bags, make up and shoes…BUT MOST OF ALL I LOVE FEELING FABULOUS!

AUSSIE CURVES: MAXI SKIRT

Maxi skirts…maxi dresses…I love them and they often feature in my weekend wardrobe. For this Aussie Curves challenge though,  I’ve chosen a work outfit.

Both the skirt and the top are from BEST & LESS. I love the bright blue in the top- it lifts the black -and I’ve received quite a few compliments when I’ve worn it. Both items can be dressed up or down and in my opinion, a black maxi skirt is an important part of a wardrobe…it’s so versatile.

SHOUT OUT TO CURVY GILRS …AN UNDER BUST CORSET THAT FITS!

Standard

EXCITED.COM

This is going to be a quickie… There’s just something I HAVE to share…

I’m not sure about you, but I have done quite a lot of ‘searching’ for a corset/under bust corset only to be greatly disappointed! It’s pretty difficult to find one if you are plus size. So imagine my excitement when I visited Sexpo (Melbourne) recently and found what is the best corset/ under bust corset I’ve found to date. It was: good quality, adjustable(so fitted well), had a zip at the front, so was easy to do up and most importantly was very COMFORTABLE!!!! Although I didn’t buy it there and then (finances and all…) I will be investing in one!

Here are a couple of pics…sexpo1 sexpo2

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

The corset is available from :EXTRAVAGANT STYLE: Good Looks for Less

Sizes go up to a 26.

See the link below for their online site- the site is currently undergoing some updating, to incorporate the corsets…

BUT…if you just can’t wait and NEED one(especially with it being the party season), give the fabulous Jacqui (director) a call to place an order on: 0421075472.

Let me know what you think…
